Getting Started

Overview

How Globagift works, from creating a gift card product to settlement.

Globagift lets a merchant run a branded gift card programme without becoming a gift card issuer. You design and sell the cards under your own brand; Globagift issues them, holds the funds, and handles redemption and settlement behind the scenes.

Who does what

  • You (the merchant) create gift card products, sell or issue them through your channels, and accept them at the point of redemption. You are a redemption partner.
  • GlobaPay is the issuer and obligor of the gift cards. The outstanding balance on a card is GlobaPay's liability, not yours, until it is redeemed or settled to you.

This split is what lets you launch quickly: you keep the customer relationship and the branding, while the regulated issuing, balance custody, and payout sit with GlobaPay.

The building blocks

  • Merchant account — your organisation, team members, and settings. See Account and Organization.
  • Gift card product — a card design with a type and denominations that customers can buy or that you can issue. See Gift cards.
  • Order — a sale of one or more gift cards through a channel (webshop, POS, or embedded widget).
  • Redemption — a customer spending part or all of a card's balance at the point of sale.
  • Settlement — GlobaPay paying you the net amount you are owed for eligible sales or redemptions. See Settlement.

The lifecycle of a gift card

  1. Create a product. Design the card, set its type and denominations, and submit it for approval. See your first gift card.
  2. Sell or issue. Cards reach customers through your webshop & integrations, your POS, or an embedded widget on your own site.
  3. The recipient holds a card. Each card carries a balance in minor units of its currency (EUR or USD at launch).
  4. The recipient checks the balance any time at the public balance checker, with no account or login.
  5. Redeem. The customer spends against the balance at the point of sale. See Redemptions.
  6. Settle. GlobaPay pays you the net amount owed. See Settlement.

How you get paid: settlement models

Settlement is configured per account, and only one model applies to yours:

  • Settlement on redemption (the default). You are paid as customers redeem their cards. Outstanding balances stay with GlobaPay as the issuer until then.
  • Settlement on sale. You are paid when a card is sold, rather than waiting for redemption.

You will only see rows for your account's model in the Settlement view. See Settlement for the full breakdown of fees, net payout, and statuses.
